Embroidery Inspiration

Japanese embroidery from magazines
I've been trying my hand at embroidery recently and finding it really fun. I've done projects from Embroidery Companion and Scandinavian Needlecraft, but I really love designing my own. I'm inspired by the simplicity and mundane subjects of Japanese embroidery projects found in craft magazines and books. The idea of embroidering something as simple as a broom or a hairbrush had never occurred to me, but I think it's fabulous. The projects below were an exercise in simplicity, based on line drawings I did and completed only using the backstitch.
